Her tenure working at The Washington Post was spent reporting on multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis as well as basketball and football. Nichols was hired by ESPN at the beginning of 2004. Apart from the reporting on TBS, she also covered baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. It is the only nomination in 42 years of this award to a woman out of more than 200 candidates.
