In the beginning, after being influenced through the shadows she saw on the grass of the trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out to create a method that does not portray an object as a two-dimensional picture. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject in which the painting is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is living or perishable items like people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the images of her work are preserved. Because the photography and painting methods are closely coordinated and result in the trompe-l'oeil effect that creates the illusion of three dimensions is only visible at certain places, for example the region around the eyes or the hair. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional space around them, allowing them to interact within the self-created universe. Through this, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between painting, photography and performance.
